Marine Invasive Alien Species Project, Awareness Raising Trainings for 3 target group (Fishers, Divers and Marine Transport Sector) were held on 03-04-05 November 2021, Antalya

The trainings were realized between 03-05 November 2021 in Antalya with participation of UNDP, GDNCP, Turkish Coast Guard, NGOs and Local communities at the pilot sites, fishermen, Central Union of Fisheries Cooperatives, Divers-Diving School Representatives, Marine Transport Sector, Women Fishing Association, aimed to increase knowledge and awareness on Invasive Alien Species (IAS) threats, impacts, mitigation measures and best practices.

The basic concepts of marine biodiversity and IAS, the relationship between IAS and biodiversity, fish species diversity and fish stocks to establish a correlation between IAS and the fishing industry were elaborated. The ecological, economic and social effects of IAS, especially its effects on the fishing sector and the negative consequences it caused were underlined during the sessions. Furthermore, the effects of IAS, especially on maritime transport and recreational boating/yachting sector, and the negative results it caused were also explained by the experts.
