Marine Invasive Alien Species Project Ballast Water Convention Practices and e-DNA Metabarcoding Training was held in Antalya on 27-28 September 2021

The Workshop was realized between 26-28 September 2021 in Antalya with participation of UNDP, General Directorate for Nature Conservation and National Parks (GDNCP) General Directorate of Maritimes, Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MoTI) and Port State Controllers (PSC) from all over Turkey. The aim is to increase the capacity of Port State Controllers (PSC) on Invasive Alien Species, Ballast Water Convention Implementation and e-DNA Metabarcoding.

During the training, MarIAS Marmara field expert; Melih Ertan ÇINAR and Ayvalık field expert, Murat BİLECENOĞLU underlined the definition of Invasive Alien Species, path and mitigation measures to control the invasion. Furthermore, Environmental DNA (e-DNA), Genomic Metabarcoding & Sampling was elaborated by Esra Mine ÜNAL, Director of Evolutionary Genetics Laboratory within Ankara University. Ballast Water Convention Practices, Background & Type of Certificates, De-harmonization/Harmonization of IOPP and Ballast Water Treatment Systems were analysed and presented by Cüneyt ALPAY, Business Development Manager of DNV company.
